Meet Ashley Jernigan!

Ashley is from New Orleans, and moved to Ponchatoula in 2000. She graduated from Ponchatoula High School, and is the proud mother of Paris (15) and Charles (9). She is a Health, Life & Retirement Planner with Physicians Mutual. She raises show pigs, has cattle, sheep, goats, chickens and 3 dogs. She is working on her Business Finance degree from Southeastern. She is also the President of Junior Auxiliary of Hammond and is on the Board of Directors for the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce.

We want to thank Ashley for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I wanted to have more time with my children. I am able to work from home, so that has been great.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Roux & Brew in Ponchatoula. I always get the daily special and creme brulee.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Sunday afternoons at my grandparents house. We would go to church in the morning and have Sunday lunch with all 13 of my cousins. The priest would come eat with us too!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Italy, to experience the culture there.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: Steel Magnolias. When I was in college and couldn't afford cable, I would watch it on repeat on VHS! The first movie I saw in a theater was Twister with my mom. It was storming outside, and we were so scared!

Q: What advice would you give to a crowd of people?
A: Give everyone grace. You never know what is going on in their lives.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I would have loved to see Johnny Cash perform.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Paul's Cafe. When my extended family would come visit after we moved here, we only ate at Paul's because they thought that was the only restaurant in Ponchatoula!

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it and where would you go?
A: Kim Mulkey, and I would take her to Our Mom's. I would like to know why she decided to come back to Louisiana.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: We have a small town feel while keeping up with modern technologies.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: In Ponchatoula with my family.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I am a very competitive person at everything!

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Happiness

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A barn manager! I did barn chores for 3 hours today alone.

Q: Most commonly used emoji?
A: Crying laughing face.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: Teleporting because I hate driving in traffic.

Q: Do you have a hobby?
A: Volunteering

Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: My kids.
