Meet Becky Pevey Smith!
Becky was born and raised in Ponchatoula. She is one of Paul and Angela Pevey’s eight daughters! She has been married to her husband Brad for 10 years and is the proud mom of Brady (9), Brinley (8), and Bristol (1). Becky is the owner of Paul’s Cafe in the heart of Ponchatoula, and is an active member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and School community.
We want to thank Becky for taking the time to tell us about her family and her life in the area!
Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I grew up at Paul’s Cafe. I went to Southeastern Louisiana University and got my degree in Education. But I was always working at the Cafe and my heart has always been there. My dad (Paul) created such a unique and friendly environment there and I just couldn’t see myself anywhere else. I took over the business from him in January of 2017.
Q: Obviously your favorite area restaurant is Paul’s Cafe! What is your favorite thing to eat there?
A: Red beans and rice!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in the area?
A: My whole life!
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: I always enjoyed going camping with my family. Just getting away from everything and being a family and spending that time together.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I would want to go visit my sisters that live out of state. We are such a close family, and it is hard not seeing them! I have a sister in Alabama and one in Hawaii that I would love to visit!
Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: I’m not a big movie person! Fun Fact: my husband and I have never been to the movies together!
Q: What advice would you give to a crowd of people?
A: My biggest goal is to help others get to heaven. So, just encouraging people to help each other and love each other and be good to each other would be my best advice.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I’d like to travel across the country.
Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I don’t know that I have a favorite band or artist. I like a lot of country and spiritual music. But I do love to be out experiencing live music.
Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Strawberry Farmers. I have so much respect for them and the hard work that they do. And I love that we all embrace them as a town and we do something so cool by having the Strawberry Festival to support them and show them how special they are.
Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with, who is it?
A: St. Joseph. I’ve been reading some books about him, and he was just an incredible person.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: The Strawberry Festival
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Right here! Raising family and making biscuits.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I live on a farm! We have cows, chickens, goats, horses, pigs. My kids love it, and we enjoy being able to provide that experience for them.
Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Ponchatoula
Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A housekeeper for sure. I like a clean house.
Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: Facepalm!
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: Wisdom
