Meet Erica Pollard!

Erica is an only child from Harvey, Louisiana. She went to Cabrini High School in New Orleans and graduated in 2006. She attended the University of South Alabama and "had too much fun". She moved to Hammond 10 years ago to be near her parents. She met her husband, Jeff, when she worked at Twin Tire. They got married in 2016 and have one daughter, Ansley (4). They also have a 12 year old black lab named Belle. Erica has worked for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry for almost 6 years. She is currently is the administrator and purchaser for the Forestry Aviation Division in Hammond.

We want to thank Erica for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I have always had an interest in cars. I moved to Hammond with my parents and needed a job, any job! My uncle hired me at Twin Tire in Hammond. There, I met my husband and learned more about vehicle maintenance. Later on, I got my “foot in the door” job with the State at Southeastern’s Physical Plant. From there, I got a job with Fleet Maintenance at Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry. I had that job for 5 years and just recently switched over to my current position in Aviation. I order parts and pay for service for our 12 aircrafts.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Roux & Brew because it’s great for every occasion. Family dinner, date night, beautiful bar with great specialty drinks, and live music. We love their steaks, seafood dishes, and dessert!

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: It’s hard to choose because I had a dreamy childhood! Fishing, duck and deer hunting with my Papa, Christmas Eve at both of my grandparents houses, and spending summers and holidays with my cousins at our grandparents houses.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I want to go to the Netherlands to see the tulips and windmills, and to go to the museums. It seems so peaceful and so different from here.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I love the classic Disney Princess movies: Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty & the Beast. I also love The Sandlot, Swiss Family Robinson, The Secret Garden, & Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: The most important work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own home.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I want to travel all over with my family. I want to show Ansley the world.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: This little hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant in Marrero called Lido’s.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it?
A: Donald Trump, because I think it would be so entertaining. I would ask him financial and business advice.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: Like many have stated before, the sense of community. The first few years after I moved here, I didn’t know anyone, but now I see someone I know just about everywhere I go. I also really love that we can enjoy parades without worry. Ansley loves parades! It’s in her blood.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Still in our same home on the West side of Ponchatoula. I’ll be supporting my husband with his career. Ansley will be in high school, probably playing a few sports, so I’ll be chauffeuring her around.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: Nothing! I’m an open book. If I don’t say it, my face will show it.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Love.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: Housekeeper!

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: Cajun- boiled crabs, fried shrimp, softshell crabs, blackened gator, duck gumbo, étouffée, crawfish bisque. I feel like Bubba Gump!

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Usually have the radio off or on low and the only child in me enjoys the quiet, alone time.

Q: What are you known for?
A: Not holding my tongue, and having the best dressed kid.

Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: The Distance by Cake. And No Doubt, of course Britney Spears, and boy bands.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: That’s too scary. I don’t want to know what people are thinking, so not invisibility or mind-reading. Don’t want to change the past because it changes everything, so no time travel. If I could fly, I’d surely crash because I love a good adrenaline rush and would go way too fast.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Cleaning and organizing, anything outside (cutting grass, pressure washing, riding bikes, going on walks).

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: I overuse the grimacing face.

Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: Jeff and I’s relationship and how we’re raising Ansley.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: A boat and gas, duh!

Q: What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
A: Ansley was riverdancing to the music in a public bathroom.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would you purchase or spend money on?
A: Travel with my family, be a stay-at-home Mom and/or open a family business.
