Meet Ginger Cangelosi!

Ginger is from Covington, but moved to Hammond when she was a child. She is one of 8 children. She graduated from Hammond High School in 1988, then Southeastern Louisiana University in 1997 with a degree in Organizational Communication. 

Ginger is the Executive Director of Economic Development for Tangipahoa Parish Government and serves as the Director of the Tangipahoa Economic Development Foundation. She serves on the Louisiana Economic Alliance for Development - LEAD (formerly LIDEA)and served on the Tangipahoa Chamber of Commerce board for years. 

She met her husband, Mike, in college and they dated for 7 years before they were married in 1996. They have two children, Michael and Catherine. They also have Joy, a mini chocolate golden doodle, and Blue Bell, a chocolate lab.

We want to thank Ginger for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I worked in the insurance industry for over ten years, then as the Community Outreach Director for Child Advocacy Services and CASA for a few years, I worked with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern, had my own small businesses, and assisted my husband with his business. All of those roles prepared me for my current position. I get to work with businesses of all sizes and nonprofits throughout our parish. I have been in this economic development role for a little over seven years.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: When we were little, our Dad would take us out to eat every Friday in New Orleans. We would love to try new restaurants.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: A cruise around the Mediterranean. I would love to have experience Italy, Greece and Spain. 

Q: What is your favorite TV series?
A: Mad Men! I even bought all the DVDs, then realized I didn't have a DVD player. So, I had to buy one to watch them. I love the costumes and the sets.

Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: The first movie I remember seeing in the theater is Smokey and the Bandit with my Dad.

Q: Do you have a favorite book?
A: I love books by Robert Greene. He wrote The Art of Human Nature, The Daily Laws, The 50th Law (with 50 Cent). There are so many good ones. His books teach you a lot about what motivates people and how they think.

Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Retire somewhere in the Caribbean.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: The Eagles. I just saw them in Las Vegas. It was incredible!

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Elmer Chocolate! I always had a pecan egg in my Easter basket.  

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with, who is it and where would you go?
A: I would love to go to lunch with my Dad. He loved a good poboy, so we would go to Ryan's Deli.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: How our parish leaders, organizations and the people all work together and truly exemplify “Team Tangi.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Preparing for retiring and traveling!

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Family matters.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A driver! I would get so much more done!

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Anything that involves cheese.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Talk on the phone, listen to audio books and use my Car Play. Safety first!

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave was Valentine's Day candy for the office. The last gift I received was a Vanderpump wine glass from Las Vegas from my friend, Dawn.

Q: What are you known for?
A: That I talk too much!

Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: Nothing from the 90s! The 80s were the best!!!

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: Time travel. Definitely!

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: RV traveling and boating.

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: Hearts and let’s be real…the eye roll emoji.

Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: My children.

Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: That I made people laugh. There is nothing better than making people laugh.
