Meet Jared Lauderdale!

Jared was raised in Hammond and has one younger brother. He attended Holy Ghost Catholic School, and graduated from Hammond High School in 2007. He then earned his Bachelors in Accounting from Louisiana State University in 2011. The next year he earned his Masters in Accounting, then passed the CPA exam.

He met his wife, Erin, in a 7:30am Economics class at LSU. They were married in 2013, and have two boys, Maverick (5) and Crew (3). They are parishioners of Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

Jared is the Vice President Controller at Stirling Properties.

We want to thank Jared for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about his life and his love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A:   When deciding what degree I wanted to pursue after graduation, I was focused on a career with job opportunities. Accounting seemed like a good fit with my strengths. I have been with Stirling for 8 years, and I really enjoy my job.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A:  Tope La - I order the pork tenderloin, and they have a great hamburger.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Going on beach vacations with my family. Or going to see LSU play Tennessee in Atlanta for their first SEC title in 2001.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Hawaii, but Key West is more within our reach with the kids.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: Goodfellas, Casino, any of those movies are my favorite. The first movie I remember seeing in a theater was Toy Story.

Q: Do you have a favorite book?
A: Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins or Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike by Phil Knight.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: People can accomplish more than what they think they can. Don't put limits on yourself. Your mindset controls your actions.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: More travel. Going to a SEC football game with the boys.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I like all kinds but death metal. I would like to see Stevie Ray Vaughan play guitar.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Brady's. In all stages of my life I have memories there. Eating cheese fries when I was a kid, it is where Erin met my Mom for the first time, going there when I was older.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it and where would you go?
A: Michael Jordan. I would like to talk to him about his mindset. He was my childhood hero.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: Downtown Hammond. It is unique and underappreciated. I also like how it is a college town. Those things together make it a great place to live.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Continuing with Stirling in different ways. Raising 2 teenagers to be good, respectful young men.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: That I am competitive. That I love to BBQ and I love to cook.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Family. My wife and kids.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A housekeeper, 1000%.

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Probably my grandmother's Italian food.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave someone was Reese's pieces to Erin or a Five Below shopping spree to the boys. The last gift I received was a LSU baseball national champion shirt from Erin.

Q: What are you known for?
A: BBQ or being reliable.

Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: This is How we Do it by Montell Jordan.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
A: Time travel. Not to change anything, just to observe.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: BBQing, cooking, and LSU athletics.

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The thumbs up.

Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: Definitely my family, 100%.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: If my family is there, a satellite phone and something to build a shelter. If my family isn't there, a hatchet and TV.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: Build a house, pay off immediate family mortgages and donate to each school I attended.

Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: That I was a good guy. That I raised 2 kids that make the world a better place to be.
