Meet Kadi Ledger!

Kadi lives in uptown New Orleans, but grew up in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. She has one older sister, Kelsey. Kadi graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 2010, and decided to move to New Orleans to pursue a degree from The University of New Orleans in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism. During her tenure there, she met her now-husband, Jake, through mutual friends. She graduated in 2013, and worked in a variety of hospitality jobs until she landed her current role at the Mother Milk Bank of Louisiana as the Donor Program Coordinator. Kadi has also completed her yoga teacher certification, and is starting her own business, Sync Sessions. She will be offering mediation and yoga to her clients. Jake and Kadi are the proud fur parents to two dogs they rescued from the shelter, Omelette and Xena.

We want to thank Kadi for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: After working at a spa for 5 years, I wanted to work in a hospital setting. So, I walked to the closest one near my house, went to volunteer services, and they placed me at the milk bank. Long story short, I’ve been working there for over 3 years.

As far as Sync Sessions, I have practiced yoga for over 13 years, and have seen that my life has gotten better and better over time. The common thread was my practicing yoga and mediation. I want to help others to feel the same way. I will be offering clients one-on-one sessions in the greater New Orleans area. If someone has more questions, they can email me at hello@sync-sessions.com.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Mint Modern Vietnamese. They have the best veggie pho and bao buns in the city.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Spending summers at my grandparents’ house. We would hang out in the cemetery by their house, sit in the garden eating all the tomatoes off the vine, and all the cousins would drink Pepsi for breakfast.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: If I could go anywhere right now I’d head straight to Iowa to see my family. I just booked flights to visit this morning, actually.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I’m not much of a movie-watcher, but when I saw Lady Bird I just sat there for two hours afterwards contemplating life. Then, I watched it again the next day and did the same thing. So, I’d say that’s one of my favorites.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Do whatever you can to create your own version of heaven on earth.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I don’t have too much I want to do, but I would like to be surrounded by animals all the time — possibly create a rescue farm.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see?
A: I would love to see Carly Rae Jepsen live. The Queen of Pop.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with, who is it and where would you go?
A: I just want to have my best friend from college, Victoria, over for lunch at my house so we could talk for hours and not worry about giving up our table. We would order in Saba or Plume.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: The best thing about living uptown is the walkability. In the spring it’s so lovely when the jasmine blooms. It’s nice to be right in the city and still have a very chill neighborhood vibe.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: My life seems to change so quickly and I have no idea what 10 years ahead looks like. I’ll likely still be doing private meditation sessions through my company. Other than that, I’d love to continue to visit friends around the country and host parties and fill our home with more sweet dogs. I’m living my dream life, so I’m hoping it just gets better and better with time!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: Most people don’t know that I sold my original engagement ring. My husband, Jake, and I designed it and I loved it from day one. Then about 4 years later my priorities in life shifted so much and I found myself not wearing “the ring”. It didn’t really represent who I was anymore and someone else could enjoy it. So we sold it and ordered a $30 band on Etsy that I wear every day.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Cozy.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: I absolutely would like a driver because I hate driving in New Orleans. Although my husband is currently my unofficial driver, so I might not need to hire one. In that case, I’ll get us a chef.

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: Is dessert a cuisine? If so.... dessert.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Enjoy complete silence and turn the heat on full blast.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: Jake and I did a collective Christmas this year and gifted ourselves the Caraway cookware and bakeware sets. They’re an investment, but they’re so beautiful and inspire us to bake more. Well, that and marathons of The Great British Bake Off.

Q: What are you known for?
A: I’m probably known for living a healthy lifestyle and going to bed at 7:00 pm.

Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: I was raised blasting country music everywhere we were, on a boat, in the truck, in the garage, etc. My top requests were Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, Shania Twain, Brooks & Dunn, Faith Hill, Toby Keith. My sister and I have country car karaoke sessions every time we’re together because no one around us understands these hits quite like we do.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: Teleportation, so I don’t have to get into a car or plane ever again. Life would be so much more efficient.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Every day I RWM: read, walk, meditate. I also practice yoga and listen to tons of podcasts. I have a tiny garden that I rarely water, but I keep planting seeds so maybe that counts as a hobby, too.

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The monkey looking over his shoulder and the red heart.

Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: My yoga/meditation practice. Learning about the nervous system and how I can regulate and tone it has made my daily interactions so much more pleasant. My life is so enjoyable because my mind is typically calm and free of clutter and judgments. I also get to teach other people how to achieve this for themselves.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: Omelette and Xena, my puppy dogs.

Q: What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
A: We were on vacation with my in-laws in Albuquerque. We were walking on the top of a mountain. Jake and I were behind everyone else and I slipped and fell on the dirt path. I quickly got up but was crying with laughter because it was as if I was at recess and didn’t want the teachers (in-laws) to know I fell. My hands were literally bleeding and I kept just walking and wiping them on my pants as Jake and I said “I fell down...” to each other over and over very quickly so no one heard.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would you purchase or spend money on?
A: If I won the lottery today, we would book a stunning vacation rental and fly out all our friends and family to enjoy the good life for a month or so. Then we’d come home and meet with a financial advisor, sensible. I would also definitely become that person who takes in all the stray animals you see on Facebook and Nextdoor.
