Meet Kristi Moody!

Kristi was raised in Hammond, Louisiana. She graduated from Southwood Academy High School in 1986. She attended Southeastern Louisiana University and received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing in 1998. In pursuit of higher education, she completed her graduate education from the University of South Alabama, where she achieved her Master's in Nursing in 2005. She became board certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Through her academic accomplishments, she was inducted into the National Honor Society of Nursing Excellence, Sigma Theta Tau International in 2003. Her career was focused on the care of children and families for more than 20 years. She opened Cornerstone Children's Clinic in 2020.

Kristi met her husband, Randy, through friends, and was married in 1995. She has a daughter, Kayla, and a son, Mark. She also has a granddaughter, Natalie. Marlo, their Australian Lab, is at the clinic most days. She provides emotional support and helps the children during their appointments.

We want to thank Kristi for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A:   I have always felt the need to help people. I feel like our clinic is different because we have a social worker on staff. We specialize in diagnosis and treatment of childhood diseases and disorders from age zero to 21. We focus on our personalized, provider-patient relationships.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A:  The Steakhouse! you can never go wrong with their filet.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: My sister and I fishing with my grandfather in Arkansas.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Sweden. It seems calm there.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: The Little Mermaid is my favorite movie. I get to watch it again with my granddaughter. The first movie I remember seeing in the theater is Herbie the Lovebug with friends from church.

Q: Do you have a favorite book?
A: Rhythms of Renewal by Rebeka Lyons is my favorite book.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Speaking to children: lose the technology and listen to others. Speaking to parents: listen to your children. Slow down.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: To tour Alaska in their summer! And to visit more National Parks.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I love Lauren Daigle. I would have liked to see Whitney Houston perform in her prime.  

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: The Central Rexall Drugs building that is now Luma Coffee. They did a great job keeping the history of the pharmacy.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it and where would you go?
A: Lady Diana, I feel like she was so misunderstood. Or the Queen.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: There is so much history in downtown Hammond. The Columbia Theater, the train station. I think it is unique that most businesses kept the history of those buildings when creating new businesses.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Traveling more, enjoying more opportunities to serve the community.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I love to knit blankets and sweaters. 

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: It is the heart of it all.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A pediatric psychiatrist!

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Mexican food.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Listen to a podcast- Rhythms for Life by Rebekah Lyons. 

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave someone was coffee to my daughter just because. And the last gift I was given was a plant made by my granddaughter.

Q: What are you known for?
A: *We asked a staff member*: ”She is known for her great care with patients. People followed her here when she opened the clinic.”

Q: What is your favorite 80s jam?
A: Anything Madonna.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
A: To fly. I would have beautiful wings. I would do it for efficiency and to observe the beauty of the journey.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Flower and veggie gardening.

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The pink heart.

Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: That I have been happily married for over 28 years. Also, my children made me proud. Of who they are and what they stand for.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: A pocket knife with all the attachments and a comfy blanket.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: Pay off our house, buy a beach house and the pediatric psychiatrist for the clinic!

Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: That I lived my life to help people. That I made a difference one patient at a time.
