Meet Rhonda Sheridan!

Rhonda is a native to Tangipahoa Parish, and a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula. She graduated from Ponchatoula High School in 1983. She then attended the Louisiana School of Court Reporting  and is a Licensed Stenographer.

She has been the Executive Assistant to Mayor Robert F. Zabbia with the City of Ponchatoula since early 2008. 

She is a graduate of Leadership Tangipahoa 2012. She served as the Chairman of Leadership Tangipahoa and served as Alumni Chair for 5 years. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Wadesboro Catholic Cemetery as Secretary as Treasurer for 16 years. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Westminster Place for the Elderly in Ponchatoula. In addition, Rhonda serves on the Board for the Tangipahoa Parish Economic Development Foundation and serves as the Fundraiser/events Chairperson for Twin Steeples, the Harry Gabriel Project. Most recently, she was appointed to be on the South Tangipahoa Parish Port Commission.
Rhonda has been married to her husband, Mike, for 37 years. They met at a wedding reception at Southeastern Louisiana University. Together they have one son, Kyle, and his wife Chloe and their granddaughter, Vera Jo, 2 years old. They also have a 26 year old pet cockatiel, Toby, and 2 dogs, Breezy and Mable.

We want to thank Rhonda for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A:  I worked for Judge Bruce C. Bennett and later Thomas "Tommy" Waterman for roughly 25 years. When it was time for Tommy to stop working, he reached out to Bob. I joined him and it has been 16 years. It has been a great career.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A:  Murphy's! I always order the Eggplant Sarah. We go once or twice a month!

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Spending time with my family at my grandparent's farm. They had lots of land, so helping them pick strawberries. Also, my dad built turtle and fish lines on the Tickfaw River. We spent all summer out there.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Italy. I have never been one to travel, but it looks gorgeous. I would like to explore the whole country.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: The Sandlot. I watched it with Kyle. I love baseball and the love of those relationships.

Q: What is the first concert you remember going to?
A: The first concert I saw was Sting in the Superdome. I was 17 years old!

Q: Do you have a favorite book? What do you love about it?
A: Comfort for Troubled Christians by J.C. Brumfield. I have given a copy to 2 dozen friends. It explains how to deal with tough times in simple terms.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Always be yourself. Stay true to yourself, if you do that- you will do well in life.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I like it all: country, gospel. I would like to see Rod Stewart perform.  

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Ponchatoula Feed and Seed. On Saturdays, I would go with my grandfather in his pick-up truck to see Mr. Joe. I would pet the chicks while they visited.  

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: Ponchatoula is family oriented. We have a sense of community and pride for our city.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Retired and at our camp on the Tangi River!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I love to iron. I do it when I am stressed. I have tons of cans of starch. I also love to crochet. 

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Comfort or peace.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A house cleaner, definitely.

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Seafood.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Have quiet time, no radio or phone. Just think about my day.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave was a painting and a book to my friend Marlene. The last gift I received was a new LSU tumbler from my friend Shirley.

Q: What are you known for?
A: Working in Ponchatoula.

Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: Anything by Prince, Rod Stewart and Hall & Oates.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
A: To be able to heal illnesses.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Crocheting, going to the river, boating, fishing, spending time with family. 

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The one blowing a kiss.

Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: My family. Our bonds and relationships.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: My Bible and my hair products.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: Donate to cancer research, donate to our school system and go on a vacation with my family.

Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: That I was a good person. That I treated people with respect.
