Meet Samantha Ricau!

Samantha grew up in Amite and is the oldest of three children. She has a younger sister and brother. She graduated from Amite High School in 2010. After high school, she attended Southeastern Louisiana University. She is a member of Phi Mu, and she earned  her degree in Psychology in 2014. She then got her Masters in School Counseling in 2017. 

She met her husband, Jonathan, through friends in college in 2012. They were married in 2016. Together they have 2 cats, a dog and chickens. Samantha is also an Active Member of Junior Auxiliary of Tangipahoa.

We want to thank Samantha for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: After I got my masters, I was a school counselor for three years in Baton Rouge.  I decided it was time to come back to Tangipahoa parish, so I work at Southeastern! I am the Assistant Director of Student Accessibility Services. I have been there for about 3 years. I really enjoy it.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: I love the veggie pizza at Tommy's!  

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: We would go to the beach every summer with my Mom's family. We went for about 20 years!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I would want to go to Europe. I want to travel back to Ireland. I love it there.

Q: What is your favorite Play?
A: My favorite play is Hamilton.

Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: The first movie I remember seeing in the theater was The Lion King with my parents.

Q: Do you have a favorite book? What do you love about it?
A: I love the Bridgerton series. I would listen to them on my commute to work.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: To a group of college students I would say: the choices you make will follow you. Good or bad decisions.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Travel to Europe more!

Q: What is your favorite type of music? Who is an artist or band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I love music from the 1940s and 1950s. I would like to see Ed Sheeran perform again. I saw him on Halloween one year, and he was dressed like a zombie. 

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: The Crescent. It was a hang out when I was in college. A lot of my friends still go there. 

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it?
A: The pope! I would let him choose where we ate!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: I feel like it is a small town, but there is a lot to do.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Hopefully being a stay at home mom!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I am a licensed professional counselor.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Comfort. Able to be yourself.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A housekeeper and a maintenance person!

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Chinese food.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: If I'm driving a long distance, I listen to audiobooks. If I am going somewhere close, I listen to the radio.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave was a homemade candle to my Mom and my mother-in-law for Mother's Day. Jonathan and I made them in tea cups, they came out really cute. The last gift I received was a watch from my parents for my birthday.

Q: What are you known for?
A: Being a good friend.

Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: Something by N'Sync or Backstreet Boys!

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
A: Teleportation! 

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Embroidery, baking sourdough bread, veggie and flower gardening and taking care of our animals.

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The laughing with tears.

Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: Being able to purchase a home and us getting established.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: Audiobooks and a boat!

Q: If you won the lottery, what would you purchase or spend money on?
A: Traveling, paying off our house and buying a new car.

Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: I want to be known for making a difference in my community.
