She then graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with an Education degree. She has taught at different grade levels for the past 18 years. She is currently a Pre-kindergarten teacher at Holy Ghost Catholic School.
She is married to Jacque, and they have 2 kids, Miley (15) and Gavin (13).
We want to thank Stephanie for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.
Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I always loved school. I wanted to share that love for learning with children. I wanted to make a difference in someone's life.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: I would have to say that my favorite restaurant is Streetside Market because of the wide variety of choices. I usually get sweet and sour chicken because it brings me back to the days when we had Trey Yuen!
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Most of my childhood memories revolve around sports. With my parents being so involved in youth sports, we were always on a basketball court, softball field or playing volleyball. I have many memories of championship games, All-Star tournaments, late night practices, and lifelong friendships that were made along the way.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I would probably travel to Iceland. It just seems like it would be a beautiful and majestic place to see one day.
Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: I have so many favorite movies, but I think I would have to put A League of Their Own at the top of my list. The first movie that I can remember seeing at the theater had to be a Disney movie when I was little. Maybe The Little Mermaid?
Q: Do you have a favorite book? What do you love about it?
A: I wouldn't say that I currently have a favorite book, but growing up, I think I read Where The Red Fern Grows about four times. I loved it!
Q: What is the first concert you attended?
A: Britney Spears in New Orleans.
Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Depends on the group! Most of my advice is given to 4-year-olds, but I think something that would apply to almost any crowd is to put God first, family and friends second, and everything else will fall into place.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I'd love to go see a Savannah Bananas baseball game, I want to go horseback riding in Montana, whale-watching in Bar Harbor and on a hot air balloon ride over Napa Valley.
Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I would love to have seen Whitney Houston. She was always one of my favorites. I'd also love to see Michael Jackson and Elvis.
Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Some of the businesses that come to mind when I think of Hammond are Bayou Booksellers, Lee's Diner, Brady's, Eddie's Custard, The Crescent Bar and Mannino's Pharmacy to name a few.
Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it and where would you go?
A: I would probably choose my grandmother, and I think I would just take her to my Mom's house for lunch so that we could have as much time as we wanted to get to know each other.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: I love the fact that we have a University so close to where we live. We can take the kids to a baseball game, basketball game, volleyball game, etc. whenever we want, and it's always a good time!
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: In ten years, I hope that my children have successfully made it through school. I see myself traveling more, and hopefully slowing down a bit.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I love jackets! I own entirely too many of them, especially considering that we live in Louisiana!
Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Peace of mind.
Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: With both of my kids involved in multiple sports year round, a full time housekeeper would be AMAZING! We are always on the go, so coming home to a clean house daily would be so nice!
Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: I truly love all types of food, but for me I'd say that my favorite type is just typical southern-style home-cooked food. My Mom was such an amazing cook that I can't imagine life without those types of meals.
Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: I definitely sing! I put the music on that I want to listen to, which is usually something from the 90's and I sing without my kids telling me to stop!
Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave was a Mother's Day gift to my Mom. I made her a little basket of all her favorite things. The last gift I received was a PJ's gift card from a student in my class.
Q: What are you known for?
A: Wow, that is a hard one. I hope I'm known for treating people with kindness and respect, working hard in all that I do, and always seeing the glass as half full in whatever situation I'm in.
Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: I was definitely an Alanis Morissette fan in the 90's, so any of her songs really.
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: I would say to be able to be in multiple places at one time. I often have to split my time in so many ways. It would be great to be in several places at once!
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Currently, the majority of my free time is spent watching my kids play sports. Some of the things I do enjoy doing when I have some down time are painting (with chalk paint), doing puzzles, and taking trips with my family. I feel like getting away a few times a year with them helps us to slow down, reconnect, and spend much needed quality time together.
Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: Either the smile emoji or the heart, followed by the crying laughing one.
Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: I am probably most proud of my children and who they are becoming.
Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: I love my coffee, so if that wasn't included in the basic "food and water" category, then I would want to take that! The second item I would take is a blanket because I am always cold!
Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: A house out in the country with a lot of land, a house in the mountains, and a beach house. I love all three of these locations, and it would be amazing to have all three!
Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: I want my legacy to be that I treated others with fairness and love. I want to be remembered for being positive and seeing the glass half full, for being a good mother to my children, a good wife to my husband, and a good mentor to my students.
