Meet Teal Myers!

Teal grew up in Hammond as the baby of three children. He has two sisters. He graduated from Hammond High School in 2009. He met his wife, Fallon, playing music at church and they have been married for nine years. Together they have Connor (8), Cree (4), and another son to be born in April (Caesar). They have a dog named Dude.
He is the owner of The Groomed Studio in Ponchatoula. Teal also has a haircare line called Polished. Products can be purchase online or in the shop.

We want to thank Teal for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about his life and his love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I grew up in a barber shop. I spent as much time as I could there. I learned so much about life in every shop I worked in. My mentors really shaped me into the man I am today. I loved everything about it. I worked at The Chop Shop for five years before opening up my own barber shop, The Groomed Studio. Once we had our first child, I knew I had to provide for my family, and take it to the next level.

I like to really focus on giving back to the community. Last August for back to school, we donated over 80 haircuts to boys and girls in a couple of days. I want to give kids hope and keep pushing. I know what it feels like to be in their positions.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: I love the pancakes at Paul’s Cafe.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Either spending time at the barber shop or holidays with family. I have a lot of cousins, so playing with them is a great memory.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Somewhere tropical and warm like the Caribbean or Dubai. I've never seen clear water.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: My favorite movie is Training Day. The first movie I remember seeing in the theater was Scream. I went with my brother and his girlfriend.

A: Find and follow your purpose. That is where the money is.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I want to visit outer space.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist or band that you would like to see?
A: I love everything from the 90s, what I grew up on. I would have liked to see Michael Jackson or Prince perform.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: The old school barber I went to with my Dad in downtown Hammond.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it?
A: I would like to get lunch with Jay-Z somewhere nice like Ruth’s Chris steakhouse.

A: The swamps.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Retired from cutting, but running multiple locations.

A: A personal assistant or housekeeper!

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: American food.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Sit in silence, thinking and pondering and writing in my notebook.
