Amber Travis

By Ashley & Andrew LeSaicherre | May 22, 2021

Meet Amber Travis!

Amber has been married to husband, Mitchell, for almost 10 years. Together they have three kids: Adelyn (7), Matthew (4), and Ada Grace (2). They reside in Greensburg. She is a notary and also is a self taught bread baker with many fans around the area!

We want to thank Amber for spending some time with us and letting us learn about her life and family!

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I used to work full time in Hammond in an attorney's office as a notarial paralegal. I felt God calling me to stay with the kids after our second was born. It was a hard adjustment. I miss the professional connections and being involved with chamber events and Leadership Tangipahoa, but we felt it was the best decision for our family.

I kept up with my skill as a notary, and have some regular clients that I help often. When the pandemic happened, I couldn't find the specialty bread needed for our daughter, Adelyn. So I decided to learn to make it myself, and that has turned into me selling my bread monthly at the Kentwood Farmers Market. My specialties are Sweet Amish White Bread, Honey Wheat Bread, Cinnamon Rolls, Country Sourdough, and Rosemary Garlic Sourdough to name a few. (If anyone would like to purchase her bread - you can message her on Facebook!)

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Jacmel Inn! That is the place to go when you have something to celebrate. We always order a steak.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in the area?
A: I moved to Hammond in 2000 to attend Southeastern, and in 2012 I moved to Greensburg after Mitchell and I got married.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Camping with family.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Where my ancestors are from: Scotland, Ireland, England and Sweden.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A:  Gone with the Wind.

Q: What advice would you give to a crowd of people?
A: The most important thing in life is reading the Bible, and following what God says in it. Everything he wants us to do is laid out there, we just need to read it to know what to do.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I really really want to go to Europe and to visit the Holy Land.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I love the Pandora family worship station. I would have loved to see Creedence Clearwater Revival play.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Southeastern

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met and is alive today, who is it and where would you go?
A: Candace Owens, I would take her to Cate Street Seafood Station. There are so many options!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: In the Village of Tangipahoa, one of my ancestors, John Bankston, was buried there. He fought in the Revolutionary War. It is neat to think our family has been in the area since then.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: My goal is to have a farm! I want chickens and to grow our own vegetables and herbs. Hopefully a barn will be built by then.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I am a direct descendant of the man who grew the first Rambo apple that came from Sweden.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Family.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: Definitely a housekeeper!

Q: Most commonly used emoji?
A: Laughing to the side with tears.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: The ability to move things with mind.

Q: Do you have a hobby?
A:
Before I had kids I loved cycling, swimming and running. I would like to get back into it one day!

Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: I am proud that Mitchell and I make a point to make sure our children know God and have a relationship with Him. I feel it is our job as parents to make sure they know Him and can be grounded in faith.
