Meet Annette Baldwin!

Annette is from Slidell, and is the second of 4 daughters. She attended Slidell High School (class of 1990!) before attending University of Louisiana Monroe. She received her Bachelors in Sociology and her Masters in Substance Abuse Counseling. Her father is from England and her mother was from France (the story of how they met is a whole other story!). She has a daughter, Gabbie (13) who attends Hammond Eastside and will be entering the 8th grade.

We want to thank Annette for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I have always been a people person. I loved the classes I was taking for my Masters, so I knew I was in the correct field. I have always worked in substance abuse counseling in some form or another. I worked in Florida for awhile, then applied for a position at Southeastern. I have been there for 18 years, and I am the Assistant Director of Collegiate Recovery & Intervention. I also chair the Terrell Conference which will be September 10th this year. It will be our 4th conference, and in-person this year! It is an opportunity for local mental health professionals to learn and network within the area.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Blackened Brew, and I order the Salmon Salad.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Going tent camping with my family in North Carolina.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I'd like to go to London to visit family.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you saw in a theater?
A: Nacho Libre because it makes me laugh every time I watch it. First movie I remember seeing in the theater was E.T. with my grandfather.

Q: What advice would you give to a group of people?
A: Don't sweat it. When going through a tough time- things will get better; This too shall pass.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Camping in more National Parks.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: 90's Alternative music is my favorite. Side note: I was a deejay for my college radio station, that was a fun job! I would have loved to see Queen live.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Doughlicious Donuts and Lee's Diner.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it and where would you go?
A: Elton John and we would have high tea at The English Tea Room in Covington.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: I love the small town feel of Hammond, and all the good shopping we have!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Accomplishing more at my job, traveling more, being more active and continuing to have fun!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I ran 2 marathons and 3 half marathons! I ran the Maui Oceanfront Marathon and the Alaskan Marathon. They were quite the experience.
