Meet Dr. Jaime Edwards!

Jaime is an only child and grew up in Opelousas. She went to Opelousas Catholic High School and then LSU in Baton Rouge. She attended medical school at LSU Shreveport and completed her residency in Austin, TX to become an OB/GYN physician. When she started looking for a job, she knew she wanted to come back to Louisiana. She started working for Magnolia Obstetrics & Gynecology 10 years ago this month! She has a partner, Allen, of 3 years and together they have 2 dogs, Clark (a rescue we acquired outside of Tacos and Beer on New Years Eve) and Nala, a dachshund.

We want to thank Jaime for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: Ever since I was young, I thought I wanted to be a Pediatrician. But I like performing surgery, so OB became an option because I still get to be around babies and do surgeries. I also like how most of my patients are young and healthy.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Allen will be starting a food truck in the area very soon, called Between the Buns! He will be serving burgers and sandwiches. My favorite dish that will be served from the truck is the Brie and Fig burger. He will be available for special events; we are really excited about it!

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Going to Astroworld with my parents and cousins!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Maldives! I would love to be in a hut in the beautiful blue water right now.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you saw in a theater?
A: Steel Magnolias is my favorite, but I also love Step Brothers. If it is on TV, I HAVE to watch it. The first movie I remember seeing in a theater is Pretty Woman. My mom covered my eyes during all the risqué scenes! She didn't know they were going to be in the movie.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: The past is in the past, leave it there. Keep moving forward.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Traveling more in the U.S. and around the world.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: The National, which is an alternative band. I would like to see them live.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: I like that Hammond is a college town. It's small, but we are close to New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Still practicing medicine, still living in Hammond. Enjoying life!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I have an intense fear of frogs!

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Comfort.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: It would have to be between a daily housekeeper and a driver.

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: Mexican food, I love it.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Listen to music or a podcast. My favorite podcasts are Radio Lab and Everything Iconic.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: Last gift I gave was Tiffany & Co perfume for my Mom's birthday. Last gift I received was yesterday for my birthday from Allen. He gave me a timer/countdown clock for our garage gym! I have been wanting one for a long time.

Q: What are you known for?
A: Being a doctor.

Q: What is your favorite 90’s jam?
A: Ice, Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice!

Q: Most commonly used emoji?
A: The laughing crying face.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: I would like to be invisible!

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Crossfit Hammond, reading fiction and watching mindless, trash TV.

Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: Going to medical school. I am the first from my family to graduate from college.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: My cell phone and assorted toiletries like deodorant and face wash!

Q: What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
A: It wasn't funny at the time, but I was recently stuck in an elevator.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: A beach house in Florida, a nice car like a Range Rover and I would buy my mom a house close to me.

Dr. Edwards was nominated by Annette Baldwin, and nominated Amanda Dimm
