Meet Katie Krause!

Katie was raised in Hammond, and is the oldest of 3 girls. She attended Holy Ghost, St. Thomas Aquinas and Southeastern Louisiana University. She received her undergraduate degree in Marketing and her Masters in Counseling (she went back to school in her thirties!). She is the proud mother of Olivia (11) and Jonah (7) and their newest addition, June, a toy poodle.

We want to thank Katie for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I always knew I wanted to help people in whatever position I had. My roles in the beginning of my career were in the nonprofit sector. And marketing in nonprofits means fundraising. I decided I wanted to make a larger impact on other people's lives, so I decided to go back to school to become a counselor. I now have my own practice in Hammond where I assist children, adults and couples in their lives. Outside of being a mother, the greatest honor of my life is witnessing the human experience on such an intimate level. My door is always open, if anyone needs assistance our office number is 985-956-7021.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: I love the downtown Hammond restaurants. I would say Jacmel Inn and I order the filet.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Sitting around my grandmother's table talking with family.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I was supposed to take a solo trip to Paris and London! I had to cancel due to COVID.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I love any mafia style movies like The Godfather.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Give yourself quiet time to listen to your instincts. Also, "This too shall pass."

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Have one on one trips with both kids. To New York when they are 10 years old and Europe when they are 18 years old. Olivia and I went to New York and had a blast!

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I like a wide variety of music from Chris Stapleton and Coldplay to Beyoncé. I have tickets to see Elton John in New Orleans soon!

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: As a former waitress at Brady's, I'd have to say there! Also, I have spent a lot of time walking around SLU's campus figuring out my life.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met and is alive today, who is it and where would you go?
A: I am interested in the everyday person and their average life story. I'd take them to a coffee shop because I feel most people are comfortable in that environment.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: I love the history I have with so many people here, so many personal connections with myself or my family.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: My youngest child will be finishing up high school, so I will be about to be an empty nester! I hope to be still doing the same work and being with someone I love.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I worked in The Empire State building for two and a half years when I was 23 years old. I was working for a nonprofit in New York.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: My grandmother, whom we call “Granny”.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: Definitely a housekeeper.

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: Not really a cuisine, but I could eat Julie Day's Spoga Power Bar everyday forever.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Quietly think.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: I received a beautiful bouquet from Hammond Florist. I gave birthday gifts to my mom and to my grandmother, who will turn 90 years old this week!

Q: What are you known for?
A: The closest people to me know that if I'm thinking or feeling it, I have to discuss it.

Q: What is your favorite 90’s jam?
A: Every 90's song played at the Back to School Dance at STA. Good memories.

Q: Most commonly used emoji?
A: The laughing emoji.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: Being content in the present moment. I feel like that is impossible sometimes.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Trying to understand humans!

Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: Without a doubt being a mother to Olivia and Jonah. The absolute best thing to ever happen to my life.

Q: What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
A: I don't know if I could pinpoint a particular incident, but my daughter and I can make each other laugh so hard. We get to the point where we cannot stop, it is the best.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: All the unread books on my bookshelf and something to watch movies on.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: Save up all the money I need for school tuition for the kids, buy a house in downtown Hammond, and rent a big house for a family vacation in Hawaii.
