Meet Kayla Morgan!

Kayla was born and raised in Hammond, and is the baby of three children. She attended Natalbany Baptist Christian until it closed after her junior year then transferred to Hammond High School. She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University, earning her degree in Marketing with an Art concentration. She resides in Hammond with her rescued animals. She has 2 dogs, Johnny Cash (a Shepherd/retriever mix) and Zoe (a Golden Retriever) and a cat, Pippa Honey (a short hair calico).

We want to thank Kayla for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I took some time figuring out what my next step would be while working at Global Wildlife for a few months. I decided to stay local and started working for Paris Parker in Hammond. I was quickly promoted and became a personal assistant. I traveled and set up retail locations and assisted them with marketing. Myself and a coworker started our own marketing firm, Imaginal Marketing Group, in New Orleans. We cater to the salon industry. And I handle the international and domestic markets.

Also, I created the company, Kay-la Handbags. When I was a child, I always gravitated to accessories. I remember embellishing bags with my mom at a young age. I create and design the items, and have a seamstress in Hammond to sew them.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there? A: There are so many, I can't choose just one! I love the gnocchi from Cena. I order the 6 oz filet (medium rare) from The Steakhouse. From Tacos and Beer, I get the pork nachos. From Tope La, I order the house salad with grilled chicken and their dips are so good!

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Every summer, my family would go on a road trip in our Buick! We went to Graceland, Disney World, Chattanooga, just to name a few. My dad would make up these silly rhymes and we would never stop for the bathroom!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I'd love to go to Mykonos, Greece and Barcelona, Spain! I want to explore the architecture and food. I like to check out places that are off the beaten path.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you saw in the theater?
A: Pretty in Pink is my favorite movie! I saw Top Gun at the Town and Country theater with friends. It isn't my first movie I saw in a theater, just one I remember.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Do not give up. Continue to navigate through obstacles through networking. Find your inspiration. Find resources. Don't follow the "guidelines" people say you have to follow. You are your own brand.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: More travel! I would also like to own a second home to AirBnB as an investment. Maybe in Tennessee.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see?
A: My favorite music type is alternative indie. I'm really into an artist named Baynk. It is upbeat music that makes me super productive! I'd like to see Stevie Nicks in concert! Ed Sheeran puts on a great show! I'd like to see him again.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: The shopping center that had Channel Drugs and Sunflower grocery! We went there often. Also Zemurray Park. So many memories with my friends there.

Q: If you could choose someone to go to lunch with, who is it and where would you go?
A: Sarah Jessica Parker! She is such a fashion icon. We would eat at Josephine Estelle in New Orleans.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: The people here care. Everyone is willing to help each other. I also love the character, architecture and how homes here are restored.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Professionally, very similar to what I'm doing now. Maybe starting another company. Personally, working on goals.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I like to eat dessert first! Not at a restaurant, but at home and at parties! Also, I love consistency. And most people wouldn't know that I am funny.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: My Mom. Family. Hammond. Security.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A personal assistant for all areas of my life!

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: Italian.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Listen to music really loud and sing. Also, think of my to-do list.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: Last gift I gave was soap from Chaleureux. Last gift I received was a bouquet of flowers that someone sent me “just because”.

Q: What are you known for?
A: Handbags!

Q: What is your favorite 90’s jam?
A: 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins.

Q: Most commonly used emoji?

Q: What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: My animals and my grandmother's wedding band.

Q: What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
A: I was in the Denver airport and I accidently went into the men's restroom. I thought it was a unisex bathrooms when I saw the urinals. There wasn't anyone in it, so I didn't think twice about it. When I got out, I realized, and I noticed that a huge group of people saw.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: Pay off my family's debt, buy a home in Tennessee, and give the rest to animal rescues.
