Meet Becky Powell-Ferrara!
Becky was born and raised in St. Francisville, Louisiana. She had a wonderful childhood with her sister who is 5 years older. She graduated from West Feliciana High School in 1989 and attended Louisiana State University for Elementary Education. While in school, she started working in the banking industry and has been there for over 30 years. She is now the Vice President and Branch Manager for Chase in Hammond. She met her now-husband, Daryl, in 1994, and they were married in October 2020. Becky has been the President for CASA for the last 3 years, and loves spending time helping children.
We want to thank Becky for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.
Q: What led you to your current career?
A: While in school, I got a part time job at a bank. I thought I would enjoy the professionalism, working with people and their money. Turns out, I did! I started in Baton Rouge, then moved to Slidell and Mandeville, then to Hammond. I have stayed with the same company when mergers have happened and I really love the industry. I feel like you have to have happiness at work. You need to make it fun! Banking even brought me to my husband. I met Daryl when he came in for an interview in 1994! I always say it was love at first sight. He got the job, but at another location. So, we both work in the same field, and we have the best time.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: For a special treat like Valentine's Day, I love Gino's in Baton Rouge. There are so many fabulous restaurants here! We love to do a Progessive Dinner- getting a drink at Cena and Jacmel Inn for dinner and desserts.
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Family vacations! My dad would drive a huge Mercury with green seats and the 8-track. We would sing to Charlie Pride. We traveled to places like Astroworld and Opryland. My parents would let us pick out our own snacks and treats from Stuckey's. I would always get the pecan roll.
Also- our Mom made a big deal about our birthdays. We would always have a pretty cake, and my birthday is close to Valentine's Day, so mine would always have hearts. It is probably why I celebrate my birthday all month long now!
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Italy! It is on my bucket list to visit there. The food, wine, culture, scenery- I need to go! Daryl's family is from there, it would be nice to go with him there.
Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: The Hangover! I have seen it so many times. I feel like crazy things happen like that! First movie I remember seeing in the theater was Coal Miner's Daughter. I went with a big group, I know some cousins were there.
Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Take a deep breath. Breathe.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: There are so many things! I would like to travel more- both domestic and international. I want to go to The Biltmore, Yellowstone, Zion National Park. See Billy Joel play in Madison Square Garden. He will be playing on my birthday next year!
Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see?
A: I love all kinds. From Christian to rap, I love it all. I like the Bee Gees. I want to see Billy Joel on my birthday!
Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Bayou Booksellers. It reminds me of shops in St. Francisville. When I was growing up, if I wasn't watching kids I was working in stores like that. It is just so cute, quaint and charming.
Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with, who is it and where would you go?
A: Dolly Parton! We may not have the same taste in clothes, but I would LOVE to try on some clothes and some shoes. I have heard some interviews she has done, and she gives the best advice and she loves to cook. I would ask her to cook for us!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: The small town feeling.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Hoping to retire and continue working on my bucket book, it is not just a list! Also, I look forward to growing old with Daryl.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: It is very rare…only .17% of people, myself included, have red hair and blue eyes. People think I color my hair, and I don't! I am also left-handed.
Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Mom's cooking! That is how she shows she cares about people. Everytime someone passes, she brings so much delicious food.
Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: Housekeeper!
Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: Italian! Daryl's Mom still cooks amazing food. Her spaghetti is so good!
Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: It depends on my mood. Sometimes I jam to music or sometimes I sit in the quiet and think about life.
Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: Last gift I gave was birthday cash for our nephew. Teaching him to save! Last gift I received was an oyster shell that a St. Francisville artist painted Santa Claus on. That was from my mom.
Q: What are you known for?
A: Hopefully being a good, true friend. I try to be helpful and I really care about people.
Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: Something by The Backstreet Boys! On Daryl and I's first date, we went to The Texas Club and danced to it!
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: Making people happy.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Volunteering, working in my herb garden, riding bikes with Daryl, spending time with my friends and family, going out to eat, and capturing moments through photos. My friends joke that the photos I take at events are sometimes better than the professional ones! I just like to take real life-in-the-moment pictures.
Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The one with hearts in the eyes.
Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: My marriage, my job. I am proud to say I have been with Chase for 30 years!
Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: Music and Daryl.
Q: What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
A: I realized my shirt was on backwards after spin class was done. Also, I put the microwave cover in the fridge not realizing and Daryl found it.
Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: Give some to church, pay off the house and bring all my friends and family on my own plane to Italy.
