Meet Myranda Triche!

Myranda grew up in LaPlace, with an older brother and and adopted younger brother. She graduated from East St. John High School in 2013. Then she earned her degree in General Studies from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2017. She is a biology teacher at Hammond High School. She will be entering into her 4th year of teaching.

She met her fiancé, Jamal, in January 2022, and will be getting married next February. She is also the co-chair of G.O.L.D. Counsel (Graduates Of the Last Decade) at Southeastern Louisiana University. 

We want to thank Myranda for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I have had a variety of jobs in the education field since I graduated. I believe in education and that knowledge is power. I have always loved school. 

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Thai Green Leaf. I order the Panang Curry with sweet jasmine tea.  

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: My dad would take me to the dirt track. There was a break when there wouldn't be riders on the track, and my dad let me run on the track and I posed for a picture!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Toyko. Jamal wants to go there, I would love to go explore it.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first concert you remember seeing?
A: Sister Act 2 is my favorite movie. The first concert I saw was Miley Cyrus my freshman year of college.

Q: Do you have a favorite book? What do you love about it?
A: I love the book Boundries by Dr. Henry Cloud. I have learned how to respectively decline situations.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: The importance of equality and inclusion.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I would love to give a TED Talk about confidence. Not just about your physical appearance, but inward also.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I love all music. I would love to see Adele or Lizzo perform.  

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Strolling around Friendship Oak and being on campus.  

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met, who is it and where would you go?
A: Ruby Payne. She is an author of A Framework for Understanding Poverty. It explains how poverty affects education. I would take her to Tacos and Beer.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: Luma Coffee. I love the quality of their coffee and their amazing baristas. They have fostered a sense of community there.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: In Hammond, either a school administrator or a school counselor.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A:  I was the top girl scout for three years in a row. I sold over 1,500 boxes each year.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Warm and fuzzy.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A personal assistant!

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Asian food.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Depends, if it is after school, I ride in silence. Any other time, I am listening to Tangi 96.5. For a long drive I listen to podcasts. Either Ologies or Teaching to the Top.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave was flowers to my grandmother, just because. The last gift I received was coffee from Josh.

Q: What are you known for?
A: Being good company and conversation. Always having a good time. Known for making good decisions.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
A: Specific supersonic hearing. I would like to hear what is going on 500 feet away. 

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: I like to tidy and organize. I like to think of myself as an at-home botanist.

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The bigger, happier smiling face.

Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: I am proud of my students.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: A bathing suit and my phone.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would you purchase or spend money on?
A: A minivan, pay off debt for the important people in my life and invest in a local charity, like Our Daily Bread.

Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: That I was generous with my time. I was a teacher who truly cared about their well-being, not just grades.
