Meet Sarah Davidge!

Sarah was born and raised in Hammond. She is the youngest of 3 children, with an older sister and brother. She attended Southeastern Lab School and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas in 2005. She went to Louisiana State University, then moved to Rhode Island to attend culinary school. She then attended Nicholls State University to complete her degree in 2010. She met her husband, Trevor, in high school, but they did not start dating until college. They wed in 2015, and have two sons, George (3) and Henry (2). Together they own Arms Signs, a company located in Hammond that creates and installs commercial signs. They also have an English Bulldog named Boosie.

We want to thank Sarah for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: After I graduated, I got an internship at The Cocoa Bean Bakery and I worked there for 8 years! I made specialty cakes and pastries, and I loved it. I always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, and I stopped working there right before I had George. I now sell Pampered Chef from home. When I stopped working, I still wanted to contribute to our household and make extra money for activities. I also wanted to share my love of food with people without leaving my kids. I actually earned a trip to the Bahamas, but was unable to go due to COVID.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Tacos & Beer is a favorite. I order a variety of street tacos and any Mexican beer on tap. Another place I love is Sal & Judy's! I get the eggplant Lewis.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Growing up, a bunch of friends and I would spend our summers at Oak Knoll all day. We would swim all day and just have the best time. We did that from 6th grade until college. Also, my family would take two vacations a year. One would be a ski trip and the other would be at a working ranch out west. There wasn't any TV, we would spend the days outside on horses. It was great!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Sicily, my family is from there and I love Italian food. I'd love to eat the food there that I love to cook.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: Home Alone is my favorite movie. I don't remember the first movie I saw in a theater, but I had a birthday party in the old Hammond Square Mall, and we saw Monkey Trouble. I was about 8 years old.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Always pay attention in the kitchen. Write things down, watch what people are doing. If not, when the people are gone, what they created in the kitchen will be gone, too.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: To have a small farm with a horse, cow, pig, chickens and a garden with lots of land.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see?
A: Backstreet Boys is my favorite band. I have seen them 7 times. I also like classical and Texas country music. I would like to see Whiskey Myers perform live.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: My Dad's former business, Pete's Cleaners! We would go there after school and hide in the clothes.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with, who is it and where would you go?
A: Martha Stewart. Not that I totally agree with everything she has done, but how she has made something for herself is interesting to me. We would eat at her house!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: There is so much to do that is close by. We are within driving distance to a variety of things. Whether it is Global Wildlife or New Orleans to eat at some of the best restaurants, even going to Manchac to ride on a boat.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: In our forever home doing a job I love. Being financially stable enough to take our family on any vacation we want two or three times per year.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I love trivia. I feel like I know lots of random information. I love Jeopardy and learning useless facts.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Family and food.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A housekeeper!

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: Italian or any southern food cooking.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Listen to podcasts. I love Absolutely Not by Heather McMahan and Heather Dubrow's World. Heather Dubrow is a Real Housewife, and everything she talks about is so unrelatable it makes me laugh.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave was some art kits to my 5-year-old niece for Christmas. She was loving it. The last gift I received was the Garth Brooks tickets from my brother-and sister-in-law.

Q: What are you known for?
A: Food!

Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: George Strait The Chair. I was also a big Ace of Base fan back in the day.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: I would love to have powers similar to wizards in Harry Potter. Being able to say a spell and the kitchen clean. I would also love to talk to animals!

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Wine, tennis with friends, cooking, gardening, grocery shopping. I love it!

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: Eye roll and smirk.

Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: My family. And the progress Trevor and I have made together building our lives. And that we have happy children.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: Sunscreen and Trevor.

Q: What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
A: I was at Morgan's house recently, and we were practicing a TikTok dance in her kitchen. I was wearing mop shoes (shoes that you wear to clean your floor) and I slipped and busted! We were laughing so hard, and our husbands came in and were like what is happening in here? It was hilarious.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: A cabin in the mountains. Trevor's dream car, the 1971 Ford Mustang. And our forever home on a large piece of property with farm potential. Also- I would pay for someone to maintain our land.
