Meet Shanna Morrow!

Shanna was raised in Ponchatoula and loves her hometown! She currently lives in Walker, LA with her family. Her husband of 9 years, Jeff, is a weatherman at WAFB in Baton Rouge. They have a son, Logan (6), and a daughter, Landry (3). Shanna has been a registered nurse in the newborn nursery at North Oaks for 13 years. In her spare time, she enjoys organizing her planner, having girls nights with her friends, and vacationing with her family.

We want to thank Shanna for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Question What led you to your current career?
Answer: I knew I wanted to be a nurse back in high school and was drawn to the maternal child care areas. I landed my dream job in the newborn nursery right out of nursing school and have been there ever since.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Paul’s Cafe! The pancakes are amazing!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in the area?
A: I’ve lived in Ponchatoula since toddlerhood. I moved to Walker when we got married, but because I work in Hammond, my family is here, and my son goes to school in the area, I’m in the area almost daily.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: My most fond memories of childhood are Christmases. My parents always made the holidays so magical and I try to do the same for my kids.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I’d go literally anywhere! COVID has put a huge damper on our traveling and I’m ready to start having family adventures again.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: The Santa Clause! I can’t remember the first, but I do remember seeing Titanic 6 times in theaters.

Q: What advice would you give to a crowd of people?
A: Stop overanalyzing what you think everyone else is thinking about you. They’re all too busy doing the same thing.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I want to visit the Titanic museum. I just recently learned of it and the Titanic fascinates me!

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: Hanson! I’ve loved them since 5th grade and have been to see them several times in concert with my friend Kristen, who is also a die-hard fan!

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Paul’s Cafe. I grew up with the Pevey family and Becky is one of my best, lifelong friends. I have many fond memories having breakfast there after sleepovers. I was also a waitress there and lived in the apartment above the Cafe for a while.

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with that you’ve never met and is alive today, who is it and where would you go?
A: I’d love to sit and chat with Kate Middleton to see what life as a real life princess is like.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: My most favorite thing is downtown Ponchatoula at Christmas time. It looks just like a Hallmark movie! I also love that I see someone I know almost everywhere I go. I love the small town feel.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Probably in a similar place, except I’ll be crying all the time because I’ll have a 16-year-old. And when I say crying, I mean that’s way close to him moving out and going to college and leaving his clingy mom in the dust!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I have a pretty bad memory overall, but smells trigger such vivid memories in my mind. I didn’t realize this until I lost my smell due to COVID over the holidays. The memories weren’t the same without the associated smells.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Home is where your family is.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: Definitely a housekeeper! It’s so hard to keep up the house with full-time jobs and running kids around. And trying to squeeze fun and memories in between.

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: Either the sideways laughing emoji or the facepalm!
