The People Project:
Stacy Hawkins
By Ashley & Andrew LeSaicherre | December 4, 2021
Meet Stacy Hawkins!
Stacy grew up in Albany with her younger brother, John. Her father owned his own company in the oil industry, and her mother was an adapted special Physical Education teacher. She graduated from Albany High School in 1999, and attended Southeastern Louisiana University to obtain her bachelors in finance in 2002. She is a financial advisor for JP Morgan inside the Chase Hammond branch. She shares her home with 2 rescued cats, Tess and Oliver. Tess was a kitten in the hood of her car on a cold, winter day, and Oliver was reaching for her while in a cage during an adoption event. She had no intention of getting a cat that day, but he had her!
We want to thank Stacy for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.
Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I know the exact time frame of when I realized what I wanted to do. When I was a senior in high school, I took Mrs. Boshears's entrepreneur class. We created a store for the school. We sold school supplies, candy and other things students would purchase. I was the CFO, and really enjoyed the class. I knew I enjoyed business, and through that experience I was able to figure out what I wanted to do in the business world.
I graduated college after the tech boom, so it was very hard to find a job. I was working at AT&T while I was in college, so I worked there for a bit after I graduated. I wanted to spend more time looking for a job and have more flexibility, so I decided to open a day care. The goal was to do it for about 6 months, but that turned into 3 years! At that time, the industry was better, so I started working with MetLife in Baton Rouge for years, then I moved to Capital One Investing as a financial advisor in both positions. I was with Capital One for 7 years, then I decided to move to JP Morgan in 2018 as a financial advisor. I love what I do, and love working with people to reach their goals. I am always available to help people! (Stacy can be reached directly here)
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: The Cajun Roll from Kirin, Filet Eggrolls from The Steakhouse and the spinach dip from Buddies are all so good!
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: In the summertime, my family would go out on the boat on the Tickfaw River. My parents would always let us have a friend come, and we would be pulled behind the boat and have the best time. While my dad and John were washing the boat and getting it ready for the day, my mom and I would make breakfast sandwiches for us to eat while on the water. It always tasted so good.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: The Maldives! I love the beach, and the water is beautiful. I would like to stay in one of those huts on the water you see photos of.
Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: Dirty Dancing is my favorite movie. First movie I remember seeing in the theater was The Little Mermaid. Probably why I love the water so much today!
Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: Don't base your life on a timeline. Everything happens when it is best for you. Don't depend on others to make you happy. Create the happiness you want because it isn't easily taken away when it comes from within.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Ride in a hot air balloon!
Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see?
A: I love country music. I just saw Luke Combs! I would like to see Jason Aldean next.
Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: I would have to say Eddie's Frozen Custard. When we get dinner, we also stop at Eddie's for ice cream. The Tangi Turtle is a classic. I also love how it is in an old building, and the history inside the store.
Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with, who is it and where would you go?
A: My dad. We would get steaks or I would cook him a steak. He passed away when I was 16 years old, and I would love to have lunch one more time with him. He was such a great dad.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: I love that we are a college town, and that there is always something going on. With the special events the Hammond DDD puts on like Hot August Nights, Starry November Nights and also the SLU sporting events.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Still with JP Morgan helping people work on their retirement plans and portfolios.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I have watched every season of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and the other spin off shows they have had!
Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: A safe place, a comfortable place. Being with my cats.
Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: Personal trainer! I need someone to kick my butt and get back into shape!
Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: Cajun food. When I think of cajun food, it is everything I love: gumbo, red beans, beignets, king cake! I would even say Popeye’s would be cajun food!
Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Listen to my Amazon Prime playlist of country songs.
Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: Last gift I gave was to my sister in law a Q&A gift card for her birthday. My mom got me some jewelry just because recently.
Q: What are you known for?
A: My friends and family know me for being a good cook. I am not afraid to try any recipe or to make my own dishes. I rarely make the same dish more than once besides the classics. I cook about 3 times a week, I really enjoy it!
Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: I was really big into Mariah Carey in the 90s-all of her hits!
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: I would love to fly. That way I could go to the beach quickly!
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: I love cooking, LSU football - tailgating and going to the games - and traveling. Once a year, my family goes on a trip. We went to St. Thomas for my 40th birthday, it was so fun.
Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The rolling on the floor laughing one!
Q: What is something you are most proud of?
A: My career accomplishments and also beating endometrial cancer. I was in stage 3 when I was diagnosed, and after surgeries, chemo and radiation, I am in remission.
Q: What two items would you take with you if you shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: My beach chair and my cats.
Q: What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
A: My best friend and I were going to an LSU game, and we thought we dropped a pin to remember where we parked. It didn't work, and we spent an hour and a half looking for our car after the game. Our cell phones were almost dead, we couldn't get an Uber to drive us around campus, it was a mess. We went through every emotion in that time, it is funny now. Now, I take a photo of the road signs of where we park!
Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first 3 things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: I would help my family and friends. I would give them money, and let them decide how they wanted to spend it. I would also buy a beach house that is within driving distance or a quick flight in my private jet, maybe Destin. Last thing would be a boat to leave at the beach house!
