Meet Tenisha Dalton!

Tenisha grew up in Independence, and has one younger brother. She transferred to Amite High School for her senior year, and graduated in 2004. She attended Southeastern Louisiana University, and decided to go to Delta College for Practical Nursing. She also received her bachelor’s degree in business from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2015. She has one son, Ayden, who is 10 years old.

We want to thank Tenisha for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I knew I always wanted to help people, so nursing was the way to go. I was a nurse assisting the geriatric population, (which was my favorite) for 11 years. I knew I wanted to start my own business, assisting nurses getting jobs. My company is A Day's Care & Service, and I have 5 nurses who work with me. I was able to focus and work full time on my business starting in August, and have contracts in Baton Rouge. I am looking to expand into Tangipahoa parish.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: Sarita's, I order the shrimp fajitas!

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Playing at my grandmothers house and land with my cousins. We would help cut the grass, so they would let us play with machetes and swing blades. It sounds crazy now! She would also help us catch grasshoppers and lighting bugs and put them into jars. She would always make sure we released the bugs!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Across the sea to Europe or Africa. I've never left the US!

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you saw in the theater?
A: I don't have a favorite movie, but I like horror movies. The Goofy Movie is the first movie I remember seeing in a theater. It was a class field trip in the 2nd grade.

Q: What advice would you give a group of people?
A: When making plans, present or future, always allow room for understanding that your plans may not be the plans God has made for you. Regardless of road blocks, you are where you are meant to be. Do not rush things. Also, be accountable for your choices.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: RV camper travel to each state and spend about a week there exploring museums, parks and what each place has to offer.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see?
A: I like all types of music, but my favorite is Beyoncé. I have seen her perform a few times. I would have liked to see Earth, Wind & Fire. Frankie Beverly would be another I would like to see.

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Miss Ann's Fast Food and Sullivan's Drive In in Amite. We would go there after school.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: The southern hospitality.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Professionally, I'd like to be running many businesses. Personally, my son wants to be a cowboy! So owning land so we can have livestock and a place to ride four wheelers.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: When I was younger I wanted to be a singer and actress.

A: Chinese food! I usually order the shrimp & broccoli and vegetable fried rice.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Listen to music. Everything from gospel to rap, but I use that time to decompress from the day. I usually do not answer the phone either!

A: 1. Tithe 10%. Some to my church and the rest I would use to help people. 2. Pay off all debt. 3. Hire a financial adviser to make sure there is always money. I would still have my businesses, but I would just pop in versus working day to day!
